In the south of central Slovakia and in the east, expect fog on Thursday morning. In the north central part of the country wind can occur on the mountains. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) drew attention to this on its website, which also issued first level warnings for these phenomena.
According to meteorologists, fog should be expected in the entire Košice and Prešov regions, as well as in most districts of the Banskobystrica region. Visibility there can drop to 50 to 200 meters. “Reduced visibility represents a potential danger for traffic activities. The occurrence of fog with the specified visibility is common in the given time of year and area, but it can cause damage of a smaller scale,” the institute said.
According to SHMÚ, wind in the mountains should be expected in almost the entire Žilina region and in the districts of Poprad, Brezno and Banská Bystrica. In gusts, the wind can sometimes reach a speed of 110 to 135 kilometers per hour. “The predicted wind speed is normal for the given time of year and area, but it represents a potential hazard for human activities,” the meteorologists warned.
