Poland is the first country in the world to achieve initial operational readiness of the US-made Integrated Combat Command System (IBCS). This was stated on Wednesday by the US ambassador in Warsaw, Mark Brzezinski, TASR reports, according to a report by the PAP news agency.
Brzezinski accompanied Polish Minister of Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz on a visit to the Air Defense Brigade in Sochaczew west of Warsaw. They watched a training session where soldiers used the American Patriot anti-missile system.
The American ambassador highlighted that IBCS is “a technology that changes the rules of the game”. He pointed out that this one the system is just beginning to be used by US ground forces, for whom it is a key element of modernization. He also said that The USA and Poland will jointly protect the airspace over Central Europe, including Poland.
IBCS was developed by Northrop Grumman. It consists of a network of radars sending information to every weapon system available so that enemy missiles or aircraft can be shot down.
Poland is developing a three-layer air defense system that will be able to shoot down targets at a distance of several to 150 kilometers. The Wisla component consisting of Patriot missiles has a medium range of up to 150 kilometers, the short-range Narew component will cover distances up to 25 kilometers, and the Pilica element will be designed against missiles, drones and aircraft at a distance of several kilometers.
