The game between Sporting and Santa Clara, in the round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup, was marked by a controversial episode involving a ball catcher and a steward at the Alvalade Stadium.
The incident occurred after Harder’s goal, which opened the scoring for the “lions”. According to reporter Valter Madureira, from Antena 1, a child who acted as a catcher was disproportionately reprimanded by a steward, causing him to cry compulsively.
Who was the animal that treated our ball catcher (a child) badly??? This is unacceptable!!! SHARE, SPORTINGUISTS!!!
— Gonçalo Sousa (@_the_real_gs_)
The controversy began when the ball catcher moved close to where Harder was celebrating the goal. The steward accused the child of having entered the field, something that, according to the reporter, did not happen. “His behavior [da criança] it was not incorrect. He didn’t enter the field, he just moved to the player’s zone. The behavior of this ARD is unacceptable [Assistente de Recinto Desportivo]”, denounced Madureira during the broadcast.
The incident did not go unnoticed by the fans present in the stands behind the Vítor Damas goal, who reacted to what happened and demanded explanations from the steward. On social media, the case quickly went viral. A video published on the social network X shows the steward comforting the catcher after the episode, but does not capture the moments in which the child was allegedly reprimanded.
So the head of security makes a guy catch balls crying and intimidates the kid. He takes pressure from the bench and then apologizes. The come taro from antenna 1 said “I heard”.
