The change in command of the House and in the main committee of the House should reduce the conflict, assesses federal deputy Valmir Assunção (PT-BA), who was once landless.

“Our hope is that, being elected president [da Câmara](Republicanos-PB) do not support all these projects to criminalize the social movement, which go beyond the MST”, he states.

According to Assunção, the demand has been raised by deputies who participate in the debate. “In this next period, a deputy or agribusiness cannot have an instrument to criminalize social movements. This is not appropriate.”

He also states that the change of command at the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) should halt the advance of the anti-MST package. On Wednesday (11), under the command of Bolsonarista (PL-SC), the collegiate approved a bill to allow owners of rural and urban properties to request police force to remove invaders, regardless of a court order.

The CCJ should be under the command of next year. “So we believe that in the next period these tariffs may decrease more and more.”

In Assunção’s opinion, some texts are unconstitutional and only serve as a political banner for right-wing deputies. “They are to mobilize the base. It is an agitation project. And if it passes in the Senate and the Chamber, it will hit the STF and fall.”
