Reinforcements for 2025 have already started to arrive at Palmeiras, and one of the first is Facundo Torres. The 24-year-old striker had his signing announced this Friday (20), with an agreement to stay at Verdão until the end of 2029.
Torres had been playing for Orlando City, a club in the United States, for three years, interspersing calls for the Uruguayan national team. Last Wednesday (18), he arrived in Brazil with his managers, to undergo medical examinations and record the advertisement for TV Palmeiras.
“I believe that Palmeiras’ greatness speaks for itself. My friends Antônio Carlos and Angulo, who played with me at Orlando City, spoke very well, but I already knew almost everything because Palmeiras is a very big club worldwide and that’s why I’m here”, he stated.
“I arrive looking for glory, of which this club has a lot, and I hope I can be part of that too. For me, it is a source of pride for a club as big as Palmeiras to sign me,” he added.
For the striker, Verdão will pay almost 72 million reais, in addition to bonuses that have not yet been revealed. The discussion about the athlete’s future also permeated Cruz Azul, a Mexican team that targeted the player, but lost to Palmeiras due to the previous agreement with Orlando City.
Facundo arrives at Palmeiras looking for strikers, as with Bruno Rodrigues injured, Dudu leaving and Estêvão heading to Chelsea right after the Super World Cup, the front line will need reinforcements.
One of the solutions lies precisely in the striker revealed by Penãrol, in Uruguay, where he played alongside Piquerez from Palmeiras: “Piquerez and I played together on Peñarol’s professional team and in some call-ups for Uruguay’s youth teams. At the beginning of my career, Piquerez helped me a lot, we played together on the same left side. I’m sure that now at Palmeiras he will help me a lot too.”
In the United States, performance has always been good – 44 games, 20 goals and six assists last season, playing as a left winger. “It doesn’t bother me to play on the right, on the left or in the center. I like mobility, I’m not a player who sticks to just one side, I like to keep changing”, he commented.
Arriving in Brazil, the player made it clear who his biggest reference is: Neymar. “I’m a serious player on the field, with a lot of responsibility, trying to create plays with skill. A player that delights me is Neymar and I’m happy to be able to play in his country”, he praised.
