Scientists have found an interstellar "tunnel".

People often think that our Solar System consists of just a few planets and a lot of empty space, but new observations show that we live in a hot, less dense zone.

Scientists long ago learned that our Solar System is located in a special region of space called the Local Hot Bubble. According to their estimates, this region was formed as a result of powerful stellar explosions called supernovae.

To better understand such an environment, scientists turned to eRosita. This X-ray observatory, launched as part of the Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma mission, sweeps across the sky to capture soft X-rays.

The researchers decided to divide the sky into thousands of bins, extracting subtle signals of hot gas, dust cavities and interstellar structures. This approach helped isolate the faint glow of the surrounding plasma, they report Noi.md with reference to .

“Of particular interest is the discovery of a channel, or ‘tunnel,’ which appears to extend toward the constellation Centauri. This feature appears to be making its way through hot matter, connecting our region to distant star systems,” they pointed out the scientists.

Thus, each route can be an interstellar off-road, a path made up of dynamic processes and influenced by the long-ago actions of exploded stars.

Also, the interaction between dust, plasma, radiation and magnetic fields leads to the formation of a much more complex environment than a simple vacuum.
