Ukraine rubs its hands with the tanks that have been seen in the port of Bilbao

A publication by the Civil Guard of Bizkaia on social networks, just twenty words accompanied by three photographs, have been enough for, in a matter of hours, the machinery of speculation to have been put to work. The photos have certainly not gone unnoticed: in the port of Bilbao, a group of Leopard 2A4 tanks wait for someone to board them. The destination, a mystery.

Among those who quickly linked the presence of tanks with the war in Ukraine is the blogger and specialist in military history, Andriy Tarasenko, who from his channel Telegram, according to the portal has pointed out that the heavy vehicles would be part of a new shipment of military material from Spain to kyiv.

Despite speculation, neither the Ministry of Defense nor the Government have confirmed whether this was the real purpose of transferring these Leopard 2A4s to the port of Bilbao. Although the history of other shipments to Ukraine points in this direction.

Spain has become, since the beginning of the Russian invasion, a key ally of Ukraine. Among all the military material that has been sent, the Leopard 2A4 tanks that were repaired at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas plant in Seville stand out. The last shipment, with 10 tanks, left in July of this year and the Ministry of Defense assumed that there would be one more delivery in the second half of 2024.

In total, Spain has already delivered 20 tanks Leopard 2A4 to the Ukrainian army. In addition, it has sent VAMTAC armored vehicles, although the quantity has not been specified.
