In a game for the 6th round of the 24/25 Conference League, Chelsea beat Shamrock Rovers, from Ireland, 5-1, at Stamford Bridge, London (ING). The first, second and fourth goals for the Blues this Thursday (19/12) were scored by young striker Marc Guiu.
Marc Guiu is Spanish and is just 18 years old. He is a member of the Barcelona academy and went to Chelsea in July. Sporting News tells more about the player.
Marc Guiu: career in football
Marc Guiu Paz, born on January 4, 2006, in Granollers, Spain, is 1.87m tall and right-handed. The striker began his training at PB Sant Celoni (ESP), between 2010 and 2013, joining the Barcelona academy, La Masia, in the 13/14 season, where he continued his development until 2023.
Barcelona youth coach Iván Carrasco described Guiu as “a classic number 9, a specialist in the area, who exploits his physical strength”. The player also makes good use of aerial balls.
Guiu was called up for the first time to the senior squad in June 2023, ahead of pre-season games against Celta Vigo and Vissel Kobe (JAP). Atacamye made his debut in this last game, replacing Robert Lewandowski at half-time.
On 11 October 2023, he was again called up to the senior squad for a La Liga game against Granada, although he did not participate in the game. In the same month, he was chosen by the English newspaper “The Guardian” as one of the best players born in 2006 in the world.
On 22 October, Guiu made his debut in an official game, starting as a substitute and coming on in the 34th minute of the second half, scoring the winning goal after 23 seconds with his second touch in a 1–0 victory over Athletic Bilbao.
Guiu made his Champions League debut three days later in a 2–1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk. He scored his first goal of the competition and second of the season on 13 December in a 3–2 defeat against Royal Antwerp (BEL).
The attacker was monitored by Chelsea, who went after the player. The club paid the termination fine of 6 million euros (R$36 million) and signed a contract with the athlete until June 2030. He wears the number 38 shirt, the same one he wore at Barça, where he left with seven official games and two goals scored.
For the Blues, he has been a starter in Conference League games, as well as coming on in one Premier League match and one English League Cup match. In total, the striker has eight games for the club, with six goals (all in the Conference League, a competition in which he became the top scorer).
For Spain, the player was a prominent part of the under-17 team and is currently part of the under-19 team.
