A study carried out by the Ministry of Health shows that 18.9% of people who have already been infected by covid-19 report persistent symptoms of the disease, such as tiredness, memory loss, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, joint pain and hair loss. Post-covid symptoms appear more frequently in women and indigenous people.

The research “Epicovid 2.0: National survey to assess the real dimension of the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil” also shows that 28% of the Brazilian population, equivalent to around 60 million people, reported having been infected by the disease. Read the study (PDF – 1 MB).

According to the study, vaccination against the disease was adhered to by 90.2% of those interviewed, who received at least one dose, and 84.6% who completed the vaccination schedule with two doses. The vaccination rate was higher in the Southeast region, among the elderly, women and people with higher education and income.

Among those interviewed, 57.6% said they trusted the vaccine, but 27.3% reported having distrust of information about the vaccine. Another 15.1% said they were indifferent to the issue.

Among those who were not vaccinated, 32.4% said they did not believe in the vaccine and 0.5% did not believe in the existence of the virus. Another 31% stated that the vaccine could harm their health; 2.5% said they had already caught the virus and 1.7% said they had other health problems.

Epicovid 2.0 was conducted in 133 cities, with a sample of 33,250 interviews. The people interviewed were selected randomly, with only one person per household responding to the questionnaire.

Under the coordination of the Ministry of Health, the research was carried out by UFPel (Federal University of Pelotas), with the participation of UCPel (Catholic University of Pelotas), UFCSPA (Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre), Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz) and FGV (Fundação Getulio Vargas).
