The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics recently released a survey with various data about indigenous communities throughout Brazil, which helps to understand how the country’s population is formed.
The state of Acre also had data presented by the research body, including the number of indigenous people present in each of the state’s 22 municipalities, revealing that there is only one municipality in Acre in which the majority of the population is considered indigenous: Santa Rose of Purus.
The city has a total of 6,723 inhabitants according to the survey carried out by IBGE, and of this total amount, 4,297 of them are considered indigenous, which represents 63.91% of the municipality’s inhabitants.
Along with Santa Rosa do Purus, among the cities with the highest percentage of indigenous people in their population, are Jordão, with 4,115 records within the parameter, which represents 44.62% of the population, while third place goes to Marechal Thaumaturgo, with 3,335 indigenous people, who represent 19.63%.
The municipalities with the lowest percentage of indigenous people in the population are: Senador Guiomard, with 0.16%, Epitaciolândia with 0.14% and the municipality with the lowest percentage of indigenous population is Espírito Santo, with 0.07%.
