There were no reports of injuries, but there were broken windows and doors. Portugal will lodge a formal protest against Moscow: it is “absolutely unacceptable”, says Rangel.
The chancellery of the Portuguese embassy in Kiev was damaged this morning by Russian attacks, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which confirmed that Portugal will present a formal protest to Russia.
The Portuguese Government “strongly condemns the attacks this morning” on the Ukrainian capital, “which caused material damage to several diplomatic missions, including the chancery of the Embassy of Portugal”, reads the statement.
Furthermore, the charge d’affaires of the Russian Federation “has already been called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present a formal protest to the Russian Federation“, added Palácio das Necessidades.
Portuguese diplomacy considers “absolutely unacceptable that any attack may target or impact areas of diplomatic installations.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangelhas already reacted: the attack is “obviously highly reprehensible”, he said, repeating almost in full the ministry’s statement: “it is absolutely unacceptable that there could be attacks that could have an impact on or target diplomatic installations”, he reiterated.
Rangel further states that “there was a very intense attack from the Russian Federation to the city of Kiev” and that, “in one of the explosions”, there were impacts “on the diplomatic facilities of several countries”, including Argentina, Albania or Montenegro, in addition to Portugal.
“There is no personal harm. There is material damagewhich are also light: broken windows, doors that were affected”, detailed the minister.
