In the mountains of northern and central Slovakia, on Sunday (December 22), expect a gale, sometimes even a powerful one. Meteorologists issued warnings of the first and second degree for several districts. They are provisionally valid on Sundays until 3:00 p.m. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) reported about it on the website.
A strong to powerful gale may occur in the mountains in the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Poprad, Liptovský Mikuláš, Ružomberok and Tvrdošín. The wind speed can reach 135 to 160 kilometers per hour in gusts in the given locations. “It represents an increased danger for human activities, especially for hiking, mountain climbing and the like,” warned meteorologists.
In the mountains in the districts of Dolný Kubín, Martin, Námestovo and Žilina, expect wind on Sunday, which can reach a speed of 70 to 85 kilometers per hour for a short time. It should be windier on Sunday in the Tvrdošín district and outside the mountains. Meteorologists have issued a level one wind warning for the location.
In the Žilina region, in several districts of the Trenčianske region and in the districts of Poprad, Banská Bystrica and Brezno, snow tongues and drifts may form on Sunday. SHMÚ warned people about the potential danger for traffic activities.
