Project that has state deputy Rafa Zimbaldi as co-author aims to guarantee a safe and welcoming environment for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) throughout Bandeirante territory
The governor (Republicans) sanctioned law 18.063/24, which guarantees people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) better conditions for coexistence and adaptation in tourist spaces. The project, authored by state deputy Paulo Correa Júnior (PSD-SP) and co-authored by the deputy (Cidadania-SP), was approved in the Plenary of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo () in November this year and, on Wednesday (18/12), it was promulgated by the head of the State Executive. Once sanctioned, the law determines the stimulation of accessible tourism throughout the Bandeirantes territory, in order to promote the inclusion, accessibility and quality of life of autistic people, as well as that of their families.
Now, the State and municipalities must offer tourist activities that accommodate the characteristics and preferences of those with ASD. Furthermore, the Government of São Paulo must train professionals in the tourism sector for inclusive practices, as well as carry out awareness campaigns about the benefits of travel for the social and emotional development of autistic people and their relatives.
For Rafa, family trips provide unique opportunities for socializing and strengthening bonds – and this should also reach people with ASD, who often do not opt for trips, even short ones, due to the lack of adapted environments. “The enactment of this law ratifies our incessant work for people with disabilities, especially those with ASD. It is essential that public authorities establish standards for the adaptation of historic sites, in regions in the interior of the state, on the coast and in Greater São Paulo”, lists the Cidadania parliamentarian.

Law 18.063/24 is another proposal articulated by Rafa in defense of people with ASD and people with other special needs. A good example is text 254/2022, which creates the Identification Card for Persons with a Rare Disease in the state of São Paulo, and which also became law. Throughout his mandate, the deputy joined Alesp with other proposals that guarantee the rights of autistic people and People with Disabilities (PWD).
Highlight is matter 1,573/2023, which recognizes those with fibromyalgia as disabled; proposition 429/2021, which encourages the hiring of autistic people by companies, depending on the aptitude and experience of the job candidate; and project 1,346/2023, which requires the insertion of ribbon cords with sunflower designs (a symbol that represents hidden diseases) on priority service signs in public and private establishments.
