This is how you prolong the freshness of flowers in a vase. They will last much longer than during the holidays

Flowers placed in a vase may wither the very next day. However, it turns out that their lifespan can be extended by even a few days. Find out how to care for them and use home remedies to decorate your home even after the holidays.

Cut flowers do not like a small vase in which they have to fight for fresh water. They should be loosely placed in it, we cannot force them. Before putting it in, don’t forget to wash, rinse and dry the vessel. In this way, we will get rid of all microorganisms that negatively affect the viability of plants.

Pour boiled water at room temperature into the vessel. Pour it to the height of 1/3 of the stems. The situation is different in the case of gerberas, which prefer shallower water.

In addition, the water must be fresh, it is best to change it every day if we do not use conditioners. After each replacement, we wash the vase. Regularly changing the water, boiling it and washing the dishes minimizes the causes of blockage of the stem vessels, which makes it more difficult for them to absorb water.

Before putting flowers in a vase, remove wilted petals and leaveseven those located at the stems. On the other hand let’s cut these plant parts with a sharp tool at an angle of 45 degrees. This will prevent air bubbles from forming and increase the surface area for water absorption.

After all these activities, we place the vase with flowers in the appropriate place. They will last longer if we place them in a cool room – they wilt faster in a room with high temperature. They cannot be placed in direct sunlight, nor above a radiator, fireplace or other heat source. Let’s also make sure that there are no ripening fruits near the plantsbecause they emit ethylene, which accelerates the aging of specimens.

Thanks to nutrients, we purify the water in the vase and extend the life of the flowers. We can buy ready-made products at a flower shop or use what we already have at home. What are home remedies for nourishing plants?

Just put e.g. a penny into the dishto get rid of clay bacteria that cause flowers to wilt.

Grind half a tablet into fine dust and add it to a vase with water. It fights bacteria and increases the acidity of water. We can replace aspirin with either salt.

  • Sugar with apple cider vinegar

Sugar provides food for plants, but unfortunately it causes bacteria to grow. That’s why we add apple cider vinegar, which fights microorganisms.

Just a few drops of detergent are enough to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold. We can also wash the dish with it if we are afraid of adding it to the water.
