Zema regrets deaths on BR-116 and says he mobilized the government

Governor of Minas states that he is working to assist the victims and provide support to their families; accident left at least 22 dead

The governor of Minas Gerais, (Novo), lamented what left at least 22 dead in the early hours of this Saturday (Dec 21, 2024) on BR-116, near Teófilo Otoni. Said to have determined “total mobilization” government to assist victims and support family members.

In his profile on X, Zema said he was still working so that “the families of the victims are welcomed to face this tragedy in the most humane way possible on the eve of Christmas”.

ACCIDENT ON BR-116

An accident involving a bus, a car and a trailer left 22 people dead in the early hours of this Saturday (Dec 21, 2024) in Teófilo Otoni, in Minas Gerais. The driver of the Entram bus, which was transporting 45 passengers from São Paulo to Jequié, in Bahia, lost control of the vehicle after one of the tires burst.

According to the Minas Fire Department, the bus crossed the wrong side of BR-116 and collided with a trailer carrying a load of stones. A car behind collided with the bus.

Moments after the crash, the bus caught fire. Thirteen people managed to get out of the vehicle alive and received medical attention from Samu. The 3 who were in the passenger vehicle also survived.

Teams from the Federal Highway Police and firefighters are at the scene. Due to the accident, the BR-116 lane, at km 285, is completely closed, and there is still no estimate of when it will be reopened.
