Former heads of State and Government participating in the Democratic Initiative Group of Spain and the Americas (IDEA) published a letter condemning the “increase in terrorism” in Venezuela and denouncing the armed invasion of the headquarters of the Argentine embassy in Caracas, the country’s capital, and the murder of two more political prisoners by the dictatorship of .
In the publication, signed by 21 former heads of State and Government, they also condemn the diplomatic interventions of Switzerland, which “instead of granting (the asylum seekers) the necessary safe conduct to leave” the country, would have mediated the handover of Fernando Martínez Mottola, former Minister of Transport and Communications of Venezuela.
Mottola is one of six opponents who have been taking refuge in the embassy since March 20 of this year. In addition to him are Pedro Urruchurtu, international relations coordinator for the Vente Venezuela party; activist Magalli Meda; former deputy Omar González; journalist Claudia Macero; and Humberto Villalobos.

The lack of supplies and the isolation of asylum seekers, who are supporters of María Corina Machado, Maduro’s opponent, are also mentioned in the letter.
The group calls for urgent action from the Organization of American States (OAS), the European Union and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to protect human rights and prevent further abuses.
