Gabi Guimarães lifted another trophy this Sunday (22) by helping her team, Imoco Volley Conegliano, win the 2024 Club World Championship, held in the city of Hangzhou, China. It is the Brazilian’s second title and the Italian club’s third victory in the tournament.
Dressed in yellow and blue —in a configuration identical to the uniform of the Brazilian volleyball team—, the team defeated the host Tianjin by 3 sets to 0 (25/21, 25/15 and 25/20) and finished the competition without losing a single set . With the triumph, Conegliano reaches its third championship and touches the Turkish Vakifbank, Gabi’s former club and biggest winner of the world cup, with four titles.
This is the fourth consecutive final that the Brazilian team’s winger has competed in — in the other three she defended Vakif, who emerged victorious in 2021, against the same Conegliano.
In 2022, the Italian team came back and beat the Turkish club, who in 2023 lost to Eczacibasi. The first time Conegliano lifted the World Cup trophy was in 2019.
Swedish Isabelle Haak was the highlight of this Sunday’s final, with 25 points scored, and ended up being elected the best player in the championship. With 10 points, Gabi was more efficient in defense and was instrumental in her team’s comeback in the first set.
Tianjin came to lead the partial by 18 to 14, but the Brazilian team reacted with six points in a row to turn the game around and then close the set at 25 to 21. Dominated from the beginning by Conegliano, the second set ended at 25 to 15. In the third, the club maintained its good performance and secured the victory with a 25-20 score.
The podium of the competition was Milano, also from Italy, who overcame the Praia Clube team from Minas Gerais without difficulty, 3-0 (25/23, 25/16, 25/13).
