In January, work worth R$ 268 million begins to implement a 1.1 kilometer “digital highway” to bring broadband internet to 13 cities in the Amazon rainforest, connecting public schools and hospitals.
The infovia will be implemented by a river platform under the waters of the Amazon River, from Tefé (AM) to Atalaia do Norte (AM), passing through Tabatinga (AM), .
“This work is essential to bring internet to people who live in places that are difficult to access and with little coverage from operators”, argues the minister (Communications). “We are going to bring connectivity to them, so that they can be inserted into the digital world and use more quality public services, such as the internet in the classroom.”
85 public schools, 12 hospitals and seven research centers will be connected. The infovia is part of eight “digital roads” that are being implemented in the North region to connect remote areas with fiber optic internet. The investment is R$1.3 billion.
