The trip of Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) to Russian President Vladimir Putin is a shame for Slovakia and a betrayal of national interests. If it was about gas transit, he should have negotiated with the Ukrainian side. This was announced by the chairman of the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS), Michal Šimečka. He considers the actions of the prime minister shameful and completely unnecessary.

“The prime minister is supposed to deal with gas transit for Slovakia in Kyiv. But he is afraid to go there, and above all, he is not interested in real results. He is frustrated, tired, he is only playing fake theater for the voters. At the same time, he is betraying his own country and pulling us away step by step from Europe,” emphasized Šimečka.

Member of the Presidium of the PS and former head of diplomacy Ivan Korčok called Fico’s trip a turning point in Slovak foreign policy. “It is a betrayal of the allies and also of Slovakia. It is a turning point in our foreign policy, for which the prime minister has no mandate,” remarked Korčok.

The Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic arrived on Sunday for a working visit to Moscow, where he is currently negotiating with Russian President Putin. This was announced by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. They should discuss the international agenda as well as the transit of Russian gas.
