Bahia’s dream of winning the 2024 Ladies Cup fell by the wayside. This Sunday (22), the Tricolores were tied 1-1 with Grêmio, in the final played at the Canindé stadium, in São Paulo, but ended up being beaten 2-1, on penalties, and lost the title.
The result ended the Bahian team’s season in women’s football, which in 2024 won the Bahian Championship and access to Series A1 of the Brazilian Championship.
In the decisive clash against Grêmio, Bahia had to chase the result. Still in the first half, Maria Dias received a perfect cross from the right side of the attack and alone in the penalty area rose with style to put the Gauchos in advantage.
Bahia’s equalizer came in the second half. At 20 minutes, the tricolor launched a counterattack. Luana gave a sweet pass to Kaiuska, who came face to face with goalkeeper Vivi and sent a strong shot: 1-1.
With the draw, the definition of the champion went to penalties. Goalkeeper Yanne shone, saving three shots. Tchula scored, but Mila Santos, Angela, Kamile and Ju Oliveira missed and saw the Grêmio fans lift the cup.
Bahia’s campaign in the Ladies Cup was marked by a draw with Pumas from Mexico and triumphs over Avaí Kindermann and the Paraguayan team. The Squad came first in group A and received the chance to play in the final.
