“If we don’t have shocks at an international level, this downward trend” will continue in the coming years, guarantees the Minister of Environment and Energy.
O electricity price will continue to fall in 2025 and in the following years, despite the 2.1% increase predicted for January 2025 in the regulated market.
The guarantee comes from the Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalhowhich ensures that the reduction in VAT and network access fees should offset this increase at the beginning of the year. The downward trend will continue, as long as there are no “shocks”, says the minister in Antena 1 and Jornal de Negócios.
“If we don’t have any shocks at an international level, this downward trend” will continue in the coming years, he adds.
The 2025 tariffs will be fairer, he says, with greater integration of renewable energies, such as biomass, wind and solar.
Within the scope of the social electricity tariff, the minister revealed that, in 2025, 700 thousand people will benefit from this supportwith a total budget of 124 million euros, but made it clear that the criteria for attributing this tariff could be revised, given the decrease in the number of beneficiaries next year.
The minister also highlighted the transparency in invoiceswhere it will be possible to observe the contribution of renewable energies.
Maria da Graça Carvalho also explains that state financing of this measure will not be implemented in 2025, but rather when the Government guarantees that consumers, and not producers or traders, will be the real beneficiaries.
It is worth remembering that in June parliament proposed the Socialist Party (PS) to reduce VAT on energy bills.
For residential customers of EDP Comercialthe year will also bring a reduction in the electricity price component, on average, of 6%.
