The CBF announced this Monday (23) that it has reached an exclusive contract with Globo for broadcasting rights to the Super Cup for the next three years, from 2025 to 2027, on all its platforms. The tournament, which officially opens the national men’s football calendar, pits the champions of the Campeonato Brasileirão and the Copa do Brasil face to face.
In 2025, for the first time, the clash will be between two teams from Rio, Botafogo and Flamengo, who will face each other at the Mangueirão Stadium, in Belém (PA), on February 2nd, broadcast by TV Globo, Sportv and Première.
The current champion of the Super Cup is São Paulo, who won the title by defeating Palmeiras at the beginning of 2024. With two victories, Flamengo is the biggest winner of the tournament, which started to be played in this format from 2020. In addition to the São Paulo, Atlético-MG and Palmeiras have already lifted the cup once.
In 2024, the Supercopa do Brasil was renamed the Supercopa Rei, in honor of Pelé, who died in December 2022. “It is a joy for the CBF to officially open the 2025 season with the Supercopa Rei, a competition of excellence which has already consolidated itself on the national calendar”, stated the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues.
