The president () underwent new tests this Thursday morning (19) at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in São Paulo, and was cleared by doctors to return to Brasília. The PT member intends to lead a meeting this Friday (20) with his team of ministers.
Upon leaving the hospital, from where he went straight to the airport, the president posed for photos and waved to the press and supporters. Lula wore a hat, as in his last public appearances. The accessory hides the scars left by procedures carried out in recent days.
“The hematoma no longer exists, and what will be done now are routine exams,” said cardiologist Roberto Kalil, the PT’s doctor.
According to him, Lula is free to do “normal” work activities because “the cognition part is perfect.” Despite this, the recommendation is to avoid physical exercise.
Released to travel within the country, the president returned to Brasília this Thursday and went by helicopter to Palácio da Alvorada, from where he would dispatch. According to the medical team, international travel will be allowed later.
Lula was discharged from hospital last Sunday (15) after six days in hospital. Before going to Brasília, he stayed at his home in São Paulo in the Pinheiros region.
The agent had one on the 10th due to a three-centimeter hematoma between the brain and one of the membranes (meninges) that surround the organ. The clot was detected after he felt severe headaches, when he was taken to the São Paulo hospital.
According to Kalil said on Sunday, the president will have some restrictions over the next 30 days, such as intense physical activity and international travel. Lula must still have tomographic monitoring until complete healing, which can take 45 to 60 days.
Also on Sunday, when talking about his hospitalization, he said he was scared. He thanked God for taking care of him, citing previous situations in which his health was at risk, such as when he and his son.
“I never think I’m going to die, but I’m afraid,” said the president, who said he was scared by the condition that led to emergency surgery on Tuesday (10).
The PT member said he was cutting his fingernails in October this year when he fell and injured himself. “The only surprise I had was that I thought I was cured [depois da queda]”.
