The Ministry of National Defense regretted, this Monday, the “prematurely and unexpectedly” after an incident on Saturday with a firearm at the Military Academy, in Lisbon.
“The Ministry of National Defense deeply regrets the death of soldier Aloísio Baldé, who left prematurely and unexpectedly”, says a note of condolence on the official account of the social network ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).
The ministry supervised by Nuno Melo presents “heartfelt condolences to the soldier’s family and the Portuguese Army”.
The soldier, who was under 25 years old, according to the Army spokesperson, died in the early hours of Sunday at Hospital São José, where he was taken after being stabilized by Samu at the scene of the incident.

On Sunday, the Army expressed “pain and enormous consternation” over the death of soldier Aloísio Baldé, who served at the Military Academy, stating that he “departed prematurely and unexpectedly”.
The previous day, that branch of the Armed Forces had reported that a soldier who was on duty at the Military Academy had been injured, with a “very guarded prognosis”, following a firearm incident.
“An investigation process was opened, with a view to determining the causes of what happened”, and the Military Judiciary Police was notified, added the branch.
The family and other soldiers on duty are receiving psychological support.
The Army spokesman told Lusa, on Saturday, that “apparently it was an accident with the service weapon” and that the soldier was alone.
