Men, residents of the South region, white people and Jair Bolsonaro voters have more trust in the police
A Datafolha survey on Sunday night (Dec 22, 2024) indicates that 51% of Brazilians over the age of 16 said they were more afraid than they trusted the police. Another 46% said they trust the police more than fear them.
The result is similar to the last survey in which the question was asked to respondents, in April 2019. At the time, Brazil was led by (PL). During the year, 51% said they were more afraid, while 47% were more confident.
Datafolha interviewed 2,002 people, aged 16 or over, in 113 cities across the country. The interviews were carried out from December 12th to 13th, 2024. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 pp (percentage points). The confidence level is 95%.
Men (52%, compared to 40% among women), residents of the South region (57%) and white people (53%, compared to 38% among black people) have more trust in the police. Margins of error in these segments range from 3 to 6 pp
The president’s voters (PT) fear the police more than Bolsonaro’s. In this case, the margin of error for Lula voters is 3 pp and for Jair Bolsonaro voters it is 4 pp
More than half (58%) of those who voted for the PT declared that they had more fear than trust in the police. Another 38% said they had more confidence and 4% said they didn’t know.
Among Bolsonaro voters, 40% said they had more fear than trust in the police. Another 58% declared they had more confidence and 2% said they did not know.
