There were 252.1 million operations that generated R$ 162.9 billion on Friday (Dec 20)
On Friday (Dec 20, 2024), Pix broke a record for the number of transactions. There were 252.1 million operations using the instant transfer tool on the day, which generated R$162.9 billion.
The previous record was on December 6, 250.5 million. The data was released this Monday morning (Dec 23). Read the note at the end of the report.
The result was observed close to Christmas celebrations, when Brazilians traditionally shop to give gifts to their family.
“The numbers are yet another demonstration of the importance of Pix as a public digital infrastructure, for promoting financial inclusion, innovation and competition in the provision of payment services in Brazil”says the monetary authority.
PIX AND CAMPOS NETO
Pix was run by the Central Bank, during Roberto Campos Neto’s term as president of the organization. The tool was already under study before, but discussions were encouraged during the current administration.
Appointed by (PL), Campos Neto will remain in office until December 31st. He will be replaced by the director of Monetary Policy, Gabriel Galípolo, chosen by (PT).

“The daily volume of transactions carried out by Pix, the Central Bank’s continuous and real-time payments system, reached a new record last Friday (12/20). 252.1 million transactions were recorded in a single day. The previous record, recorded on December 6 of this year, was 250.5 million transactions. The numbers are yet another demonstration of the importance of Pix as a public digital infrastructure, for promoting financial inclusion, innovation and competition in the provision of payment services in Brazil. The financial value of the 252.1 million transactions is R$ 162.9 billion.”
