At the Loulé City Council meeting, held on December 16, 2024, the proposal presented by the PSD councilor, João Paulo Sousa, for the development of a municipal velodrome as the anchor of a multimodal cycling complex was unanimously approved, reported the Loulé PSD in a statement.
This infrastructure, “which meets the sporting and structural needs of the municipality, reinforces the commitment to the modernization and diversification of sport in Loulé, with a particular appreciation of the cyclinga historical modality of enormous importance in the municipality”, says the note.
“With great satisfaction, the PSD marks the approval of this proposal, which comes at a strategic moment in which the new Municipal Master Plan (PDM) is in the review phase. The creation of this complex structures and consolidates the thought sports centerallowing the municipality of Loulé to be provided with a reference sports infrastructure at a regional, national and international level”, highlights the statement.
During the presentation, councilor João Paulo Sousa highlighted the importance of this approval for the development of sport in the municipality, remembering that “the velodrome, integrated into a multimodal cycling complex, not only values the tradition of cycling in Loulé, but also promotes a structured and modern vision for this sport, following new global trends and responding to the demands of different aspects of cycling”.
The project, which will have the municipal velodrome as central infrastructurewill also include other relevant components such as a BMX Race trackan Olympic sport since 2008, a Pump Track e Balance Bikeswhich will allow the initiation and technical development of children and young people, encouraging sports participation from an early age. “These equipment respond to the needs of a diverse and emerging public, ensuring that cycling in Loulé develops in a sustainable way. comprehensive, inclusive and innovative“.
João Paulo Sousa also highlighted that “With this proposal, Loulé gains not only an excellent sports infrastructure, but also a platform to attract regional, national and international events, with a positive economic impact on boosting the local economy through sports tourism”.
The approval of this project represents “a significant step for the future of sport in Londrina, allowing the municipality to keep up with the new demands of modern cycling and continue to be a reference in training talent and promoting sport for all ages. The velodrome and the complementary infrastructure of this multimodal complex will contribute to an integrated and sustainable vision of sports development, combining tradition, innovation and inclusion”, says the note.
The “welcomes the unanimity of the parties represented in the municipal executive, who recognized the strategic importance of this proposal for the municipality, and reaffirms its commitment to continue working for the progress and dynamization of sport in Loulé”.
