“Banning TikTok for (at least) one year in Albania is not a hasty reaction to an isolated incident, but a carefully considered decision made in consultation with parent communities in the country’s schools.
TikTok has no reason to demand clarification from Albania because in Albania the Albanians are the ones making the decisions and not the owners of the TikTok algorithm. While Albania may be too small to demand that TikTok protect children and youth from the terrifying pitfalls of its algorithm, we sincerely hope that TikTok will take this step for the benefit of humanity, including Albania.
Claiming that the murder of the teenage boy had nothing to do with TikTok because the conflict did not start on the platform shows that we do not understand both the seriousness of the threat that TikTok poses to children and young people today and the reasoning behind it. our decision to take responsibility for dealing with this threat.
Fortunately, Albania is a democratic country where, when over 90% of parents call for a ban on TikTok and the vast majority believe that the health and well-being of our children should not serve the platform, but that the platform should serves the health and well-being of our children, our decision could not be clearer:
Either TikTok protects Albania’s children, or Albania will protect its children from TikTok”.
