In the middle of the holiday preparations, in addition to the traditional cleaning, cooking and decorating the Christmas tree, a dilemma arises:

“How to give silver cutlery the required shine that will please the guests at the Christmas table?”

It turns out there’s an easy way to do it that only requires a few off-the-shelf ingredients. The solution is to use aluminum foil and boiling water when cleaning silver or plated cutlery.

Here are the steps to achieve a mirror-like shine:

  1. Prepare several pieces of aluminum foil and then roll them up.
  2. Add baking soda and sugar to a pot of water.
  3. When the water reaches boiling point, add the foil and cutlery.
  4. Cook the cutlery in boiling water for 10 minutes, and after removing it, wash it with a sponge and washing-up liquid and rinse it under water. Finally, polish it.
