São Brás de Alportel approves budget with votes against from the PSD and abstention from the CDU

The São Brás de Alportel Chamber, in the district of Faro, will have a budget of 25 million euros in 2025, whose priorities include housing and social cohesion, the municipality said this Monday.

The Algarve municipality informed, in a statement, that the budget proposal was approved, by a majority, by the municipal assembly on December 19, with 10 votes in favor from those elected from the PS, one abstention from the elected CDU and six votes against from the bench of the PSD.

At the chamber meeting, the document, which includes an increase of 1.5 million euros in relation to the budget for the current year, had already been approved with three votes in favor from the executive members elected by the PS and two votes against from the elected by the PSD.

The budget proposal “reflects a strategic and financial commitment to sustainable development and prioritizes quality of life and social cohesion”, with “significant investments in several fundamental areas”, highlighted the president of the São Brás de Alportel City Council, Vitor Guerreiro (PS), at the municipal assembly meeting, mentioned in the statement.

In the area of ​​housing and social cohesion, considered “priorities in council management”, the executive intends to continue implementing the Local Housing Strategy, “to create new dwellings and rehabilitate a set of buildings acquired by the municipality”, in addition to reinforcing programs housing support.

“Direct assistance to the most vulnerable families” will be guaranteed with “the continuity of the Vale+ Plans for education, health and housing”, reads the statement from the Algarve municipality.

In the health sector, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel is moving forward in 2025 with the construction of the new Family Health Unit building, which will represent “an investment of around two million euros”.

The expansion of the EB 2,3 Poeta Bernardo de Passos School and the “Joaninhas” Kindergarten will be the main projects in the educational area, and “awaiting approval of applications for community funding”, revealed the .

In the area of ​​infrastructure and mobility, the executive highlighted the requalification and expansion of the municipal road network, including investment in Municipal Road 513 (Arimbo-Cortelha) and Estrada 523 (Estrada Nacional 270 – Vale Carvalho).

The construction of the new Praça 1914, at the southern entrance to the town of São Brás de Alportel, already underway, the requalification of Rua Carrera Viegas and Rua João de Deus and the second phase of the requalification of the urban center are the main bets in urban renewal .

The Municipal Water Efficiency Plan includes “a massive investment” in the order of one million euros, while the Energy Efficiency Plan indicates investment in photovoltaic production, focusing on sustainable and renewable solutions, highlighted the São Brás de Alportel Chamber .

In the area of ​​security and civil protection, it is planned to remodel the Municipal Air Resources Center, reinforce fire-fighting equipment, focus on prevention, with the “Condomínios de Aldeia” project, and support of 600 thousand euros to Volunteer Firefighters.

In other areas, the executive highlights the expansion of the Sanitation Network Expansion Plan in the municipality, “the phased execution of the major rehabilitation and modernization project” of the São Brás Cineteatro Jaime Pinto, the plan to boost the new business park in São Brás de Alportel and the maintenance and modernization works of the municipal market.
