The SaS party will propose to the opposition colleagues that they jointly consider convening an extraordinary meeting of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic to express no confidence in the government of Robert Fico (Smer-SD). He wants to do so in response to Fico’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. SaS considers it treason.
SaS reiterated that Fico does not behave as the president of a sovereign country, but as a collaborator, and thus Slovakia finds itself in international isolation. “So we can legitimately ask how our partners in the EU and NATO will approach us. Fico in Moscow serves Russian propaganda and puts us to shame. That is also why we will suggest to our opposition colleagues that we talk about the fact that immediately after the New Year we will go to an extraordinary meeting with only one item on the agenda, namely expressing no confidence in the government of Robert Fico,” said the chairman of SaS, Branislav Gröhling, in his statement.
The party refuses to pretend that Fico represents the citizens of Slovakia at the meetings with Putin. “No, he does not represent – he does not negotiate with a war criminal. Fico’s government must fall,” he added.
Gröhling’s party emphasized that Putin has the blood of hundreds of thousands of innocent victims on his hands. “Discussing anything with this person is a betrayal not only of our country, but also of our allies from the EU and NATO. Ridiculous excuses about gas will not stand. In the past, the Ministry of Economy under the leadership of SaS secured enough gas, even without pandering to the murderer,” the party leader added.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Sunday (December 22). They talked about the military situation in Ukraine, the possibilities of a peaceful solution, as well as the bilateral relations between Slovakia and Russia, which Fico wants to standardize. The topic of the conversation was also the transit of Russian gas. The Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic declares that he is promoting a sovereign policy on all four sides, while he informed the highest representatives of the EU about his trip and its purpose.
