Air accident involved businessman Luiz Claudio Salgueiro Galeazzi and 9 family members; another 17 were injured on the ground
Rescue teams began to remove the bodies of the victims of the plane crash this Sunday (Dec 22, 2024) in Gramado (RS) from the plane, which left 10 people dead. The small aircraft, which left Canela, crashed minutes after takeoff, hitting the chimney of a building, a house, an inn and a furniture store. Everyone on board died.
Another 17 people who were on the ground at the time of impact were hospitalized. Rescue teams are working in the area of the accident. The investigation into the causes of the accident is ongoing. Authorities are currently seeking to clarify the reasons and offer support to the families of the victims and those injured.
According to the Civil Police, 10 people were on board the plane: businessman Luiz Claudio Salgueiro Galeazzi, owner and pilot of the plane, his wife, 3 children, mother-in-law, sister, brother-in-law and two children.
The location was isolated by the Military Brigade. Security forces remain at the scene. They carry out the aftermath and rescue work. The Civil Police investigates the case. Cenipa (Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center), of the FAB (Brazilian Air Force), is also investigating the crash.

Luiz Galeazzi was the son of retail consultant and former director of Pão de Açúcar Claudio Galeazzi, who died in 2023 due to cancer. Luiz’s father founded in 1995 the a company specialized in helping companies in crisis. Luiz followed his father’s business.
The plane crashed around 9:30 am in Gramado (RS) after taking off from Canela (RS). The accident occurred in the region of Avenida das Hortênsias, in the Avenida Central neighborhood, which connects Gramado to Canela.
During the initial response to the incident, at least 15 people were taken to the city hospital, most of them for having inhaled smoke from the fire caused by the fall.
The plane crashed into the chimney of a building, then into the 2nd floor of a residence and then crashed into a furniture store. Debris even reached an inn.
The site is isolated by the Military Brigade. Security forces remain on site carrying out recovery and rescue work. The Civil Police investigates the case.

This wasn’t the first time a plane crash had happened to the Galeazzi family. In 2010, a twin-engine plane, also owned by Luiz Claudio Galeazzi, crashed in Sorocaba (SP) and his mother, Maria Leonor Salgueiro Galeazzi, was on board and died.

The (National Civil Aviation Agency) that the plane was in “normal situation”. It could be used for private transport, but was not authorized to operate as an air taxi.

Through his account on X (formerly Twitter), Eduardo Leite stated that, at the moment, the priority is to ensure the isolation of the area and assist the victims who suffered injuries. He is already in the city of Serra Gaúcha.
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, (PSDB), declared that the causes of the accident are still unknown and that Cenipa (Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center) and the Civil Police will conduct the investigations. “What we know is that the weather conditions were not the best, but only experts can say better”these.
For the investigation to begin, security forces must remove the plane’s debris from the site. So far, however, there is no demand for missing people, the governor said.
