The money will be used for medical care for soldiers and fuel allowance.
Authorities in Russia’s Transbaikal region in Siberia have canceled a one-time benefit for soldiers who have permanent effects from injuries they sustained fighting in Ukraine. The country’s Ministry of Social Affairs said the money would instead be used to provide medical care and treatment for soldiers and a fuel allowance. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.
Compensation previously amounted to between 100,000 and 500,000 rubles, depending on the severity of the health consequences.
At the same time, the Russian government decided on different payments for the injured only in November, based on the order of President Vladimir Putin, writes DPA. The Moscow Times reported at the time that Putin signed a decree regulating compensation for wounded soldiers, who will receive compensation based on the severity of their injuries instead of a lump sum payment. The decree thus amended the Russian president’s original promise of a lump-sum payment of three million rubles for all wounded soldiers, which Putin made after the start of the invasion of Ukraine.
Although the November regulation, according to the DPA, was officially justified by the fact that seriously injured soldiers should receive more money in the future, according to media information, many groups of injured persons currently receive less compensation.
Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for almost three years. Representatives of Western countries estimate that more than 100,000 Russian soldiers have died and approximately 500,000 have been injured since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, adds DPA.
