State deputy Tenente Coimbra (PL-SP) is articulating the installation of a Taiwanese electric bus factory in . The initiative was discussed during a trip to the Asian island, carried out by the Brazil-Taiwan Parliamentary Front of the (Legislative Assembly of São Paulo), of which the parliamentarian is a member. The mission, which included other deputies such as (PL), André Bueno (PL) and Vitão do Cachorrão (Republicans), aimed to learn about technological projects and prospect partnerships between the state of São Paulo and Taiwan.

During the visit, the delegation met a Taiwanese company specializing in the manufacture of electric buses. Originally, the company planned to expand its operations to Rio Grande do Sul, but Coimbra seeks to bring the investment to São Paulo, more specifically to Baixada Santista. “We want to create an industrial complex on the coast of São Paulo to expand investments and generate jobs, in addition to enabling the transition to more sustainable urban mobility”, stated the deputy. According to Coimbra, the installation of an electric bus factory in São Paulo would also contribute to the gradual replacement of combustion vehicles by electric vehicles in São Paulo’s municipalities.

In addition to the electric bus industry, the Parliamentary Front’s agenda included visits to other Taiwanese companies that develop transport technologies, such as lithium batteries that increase the autonomy of electric vehicles. The delegation also met startups that apply artificial intelligence (AI) to urban mobility.

One of the proposals presented during the mission was the creation of an educational exchange, which would allow Brazilian students to improve skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, 3D printing and industrial technologies. In return, Taiwanese students could carry out activities related to agribusiness in Brazil.

Deputies from São Paulo also met with Taiwan’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Remus Li-Kuo Chen. At the meeting, they discussed the possibility of technical cooperation and training of students to meet the demands of productive sectors of the economy. “The partnership with Taiwan can bring important benefits to São Paulo, such as job creation and the development of innovative technologies. This is an articulation that can boost strategic sectors for the State”, concluded Coimbra.
