Sophie Hedigerová, a 26-year-old local snowboarder, died in Switzerland. According to information from the Swiss media, she was overwhelmed by an avalanche.
The general director of the Swiss Ski Association (Swiss-Ski) Walter Reusser commented on the death of the young Swiss competitor. “We are shocked and our thoughts go out to Sophie’s family, to whom we extend our deepest condolences. Sophie’s death is a dark event for us at Christmas time. We are extremely sad. We will keep fond memories of Sophia,” the website bluewin.ch quoted.
In its statement, Swiss-Ski emphasized that Hediger died tragically, suddenly and too soon in her favorite sport. On Monday afternoon, the snowboarder was riding on the closed Black Diamond slope, where she was overwhelmed by an avalanche. When rescuers found her, it was too late.
Hedigerová won last year in St. Moritzi 2nd place in the World Cup race. After an agreement with the family, the association did not want to publish further information about her death and asked for privacy to be respected.
