In the last session of 2024 of the 1st Panel of the (Supreme Federal Court), on November 17, the president of the collegiate, minister Cristiano Zanin, highlighted the 383 actions regarding January 8, 2023 that were analyzed throughout the year.
A change in the Internal Regulations of the STF in December last year allowed complaints and criminal actions to also be judged by smaller panels, made up of 5 ministers, and not exclusively by the plenary.
In total, 1,541 criminal cases were opened in the STF against participants in the extremist acts in Praça dos Três Poderes. So far, the Court has validated non-criminal prosecution agreements by the (Attorney General’s Office) with 521 defendants and sentenced another 313 —2 in the 1st Panel.
In addition to Zanin, the 1st Panel includes ministers Alexandre de Moraes —rapporteur of the actions on the 8th of January in the Court—, Flávio Dino and Luiz Fux and minister Cármen Lúcia.
