Alone at Home is definitely among the Christmas classics. Almost everyone knows the story of Kevin McCallister, whose parents forget him at home. The film, shot in 1990, still enjoys huge popularity in the USA, but also in Slovakia.
However, there are little things in it that can hardly be ignored. The portal wrote them all down. Here are the biggest Home Alone inconsistencies that didn’t make sense in the movie.
When Kevin’s parents arrive in Paris, they try to contact their son or neighbors. However, they are unable to call because the phone lines in the neighborhood are down. However, Kevin orders a pizza over the phone without any problems. Some people point to the fact that it might have been possible. Telephone lines in the early 1990s worked differently than we know today, but it still puts pressure on many people.
Perhaps the funniest part of the film is how the wet bandits get a tailspin. Kevin devised an elaborate plan to prevent the thieves from stealing or harming him. In reality, the pair would suffer really serious injuries. At the very least, they would end up with broken bones, third degree burns and concussions. The elaborate plan is the highlight of the film, but it’s hard to believe that Kevin could pull it off in such a short amount of time.
Another big discrepancy is the absence of any police. Kevin was a kid from a wealthy neighborhood, so it’s likely that his parents would have taught him to call the cops in case of trouble. Even the pizza delivery boy didn’t call the lawmen, even if he ran away from the house without himself. Kevin scared him with a scene from a movie. If he truly believed he was being shot at or threatened, it would make sense for him to contact the police.
Old man Marley finally saved the protagonist from the wet bandits. The latter takes him back home, but does not check at all where Kevin’s parents are or how he got into a dangerous situation. It also appears that the attempted robbery took place on Christmas Eve, while Kevin’s family will return home the following morning. The house is supposed to be in a catastrophic state, but as if by a miracle, at the end of the film, it is back out of the box.
