Find out why this grandmother charges her family for Christmas dinner: “If they don't pay by December 1st, they won't come”

A grandmother once again attracted attention after explaining why she charges her family to attend her Christmas dinner and even increases the fees for this year.

The story is about Caroline Duddridge, 65, from Cardiff, Wales, who for seven years has been asking her children, grandchildren and other guests to contribute financially to cover the costs of Christmas dinner.

Last year, Caroline shared details on the program . At the time, he stated: “if they don’t pay by December 1st, they won’t come”. He added: “Obviously, there have been some complaints and complaints saying ‘I have some children’, but at the end of the day that’s not really my problem, is it?”

In 2022, the amount charged to children was around 15 pounds (approximately 18) for each of the two children, 10 pounds (approximately €12) for each of the three daughters and between 2.50 (approximately €3) and 5 pounds (approximately €6) for grandchildren, depending on their age. Now, due to inflation and rising supermarket prices, Grandma has decided to raise the fee to £15 (approximately €18) per person. However, despite this adjustment, Caroline expects the total costs of food, desserts and preparation to exceed the amount received.

In an interview, he once again highlighted that the cost of living crisis makes everyday purchases considerably more expensive, commenting: “I’m not sure it will come, because when you buy a few little things, it’s around 30 or 40 pounds. and it’s pretty much just a pain. It’s not Christmas shopping, it’s just general shopping, it’s scary and we wonder where it will end.”

Every year, Caroline prepares a lavish table, with a buffet of sandwiches, turkey accompanied by traditional garnishes and various Christmas desserts. According to the grandmother, everyone still takes home “the leftovers” for the following festive days.

Despite some criticism, there are those who agree with the idea, considering it fair for guests to contribute to the expenses. Some online comments show divided opinions, from those who completely disagree to those who think the model is suitable.
