Fire on Christmas Day: Retirement home engulfed in flames, reports of injuries

Fifteen people suffered minor injuries in a fire that broke out in a nursing home in the center of the German city of Munich on Christmas Day. The fire department said this in an updated report on the number of injured on Wednesday. TASR informs about it according to the report of the DPA agency.

The cause of Tuesday’s fire and the extent of the damage remain unclear. According to the firemen, it was from a historical building 60 people were evacuated before the flames spread to part of the roof and bell tower. 120 firefighters intervened on the spot, extinguishing the fire late into the night and in the process removing the metal facade of the bell tower. The police again closed the surrounding streets.

Some people were moved to an unaffected part of the nursing home, as well as to a nearby building belonging to the Technical University of Munich, the fire department said. The injured, who inhaled smoke, were taken to the hospital.
