In the German city of Magdeburg on Thursday will hold a memorial concert dedicated to the victims of the attack that took place last week on Friday at the Christmas markets there. TASR informs about this according to the Tuesday report of the press agency DPA.
The traditional Christmas concert organized by the Magdeburg Theater (TM) will be changed to reflect this tragic event. The authorities, in consultation with the mayor, will provide 200 free tickets for relatives of the victims and members of the emergency services. The concert will begin with a minute of silence.
The attack took place in Magdeburg’s main square, when a passenger vehicle avoided security barriers and rammed into the crowd. The attack killed five people – four women and a nine-year-old boy – and injured 235 others.
The man who was behind the wheel of the car was detained by the police at the scene of the crime. He is a 50-year-old psychiatrist from Saudi Arabia. He has been living in Germany since 2006, in 2016 he received the status of a political refugee. He has shared extremist views on social media, and Saudi Arabia says it has repeatedly warned German authorities against him.
