Traditional Christmas dried compote is usually prepared using dried plums, apples, pears and spices. It is often enriched with dried cranberries or apricots.
These ingredients have a significant impact on our body. Dried apples, which are the basis for the Christmas Eve compote, are rich in vitamin C, which has a positive effect on many aspects, including: for immunity. What’s more, it is not only a drink that has many valuable properties, but is also very easy to prepare. We can make it in advance and then just heat it up before serving. To prepare approximately a two-liter portion of compote, we will need:
- 80 g dried apricots,
- 80 g smoked plums,
- 40 g of dried cranberries,
- 150 g dried apples,
- 150 g dried pears,
- 3.5 liters of water,
- 1 teaspoon of dried cloves,
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder,
- 1/2 orange.
To prepare the compote, start by rinsing the dried fruit in cold water and then throwing them into a large pot. Pour 3.5 liters of cold water over it and set aside for 20 minutes until the fruit softens.
Add 1 teaspoon of dried cloves and put everything on the stove. Cook the compote covered for 30 minutes. After this time, add cinnamon and juice from half an orange, and then cook for another 10 minutes. If we want, we can sweeten the compote with sugar or honey.
