In another 1,044 cases, the action was direct through the IAT fauna team in Curitiba, with 723 assistance to animals resulting from seizures, 214 rescues and 107 voluntary surrenders.

Care varies from case to case, but consists of evaluating the animal and, if necessary, treating illnesses, biological monitoring, use of medications and dressings and surgical procedures.

According to the government, the animals’ stay in the centers depends on the time needed for their recovery.” The destination may be release into the natural habitat or, when it is a risk to return them to nature, they are sent to breeding facilities authorized by the IAT, or individual maintainers, equally qualified by the environmental agency”, he explains.
