General director Antônio Fernando Souza Oliveira also states that Lula’s decree restricting the use of weapons by police officers was “right”
The general director of (Federal Highway Police), Antônio Fernando Souza Oliveira, defended the use of body cameras after corporation police officers shot a 26-year-old woman during an action in Baixada Fluminense, in Rio de Janeiro, on Tuesday (Dec 24, 2024 ), Christmas Eve.
“I am a strong supporter of the use of body cameras because they defend police activity. But, so that this fact does not happen again, so that we no longer mourn victims of this nature, there are steps beyond just a legislative effort”said the director in an interview with GloboNews this Wednesday (Dec 25).
During the interview, the general director of the PRF also stated that the of the president (PT) that restricted the use of weapons by police officers was “right”.
He also said that the environment in Rio de Janeiro is different and that specific training is being developed for work in the State.
To PF an investigation was carried out to investigate the case and the PRF agents involved in the action were preventively removed from all activities.
UNDERSTAND THE CASE
Young Juliana Leite Rangel, 26 years old, was shot in the head during a PRF action on Rodovia Washington Luís (BR-040) on Tuesday night (Dec 24).
The victim was going with his family of 5 people to spend Christmas at his relatives’ house in Itaipu, Niterói, metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, when the car was hit by several shots fired by PRF agents, near Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense.
The incident occurred around 9pm. The young woman was taken to the Adão Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital, in Caxias, and needed to be intubated, underwent surgery and her condition is considered very serious.
Juliana’s father, Alexandre da Silva Rangel, 53 years old, was also admitted to the health unit with a gunshot wound to his left hand.
He was evaluated by the hospital’s general surgery and orthopedics unit. No injuries or fractures were found – just a small cut. He was discharged on Tuesday night (Dec 24).
Alexandre’s car with several gunshot marks and that of the PRF team were towed to the courtyard of the federal police station, in Nova Iguaçu, where the examination and testimony of the police officers and the victims who were in the car, all from the same family, will be carried out. .
