As the only species of exclusively North American eagles and golden eagles, it has been fully protected since 1940. It has been used as a symbol of the power and strength of the United States for over 240 years.
US President Joe Biden signed a decree on Tuesday making the bald eagle the official symbol of the United States. TASR informs about it based on the report of the AP agency.
Biden signed a law that amends the code of the United States to declare the bald eagle – a symbol of the power and strength of the United States for more than 240 years – as a national symbol, the AP notes.
In the coat of arms of the United States of America, which is used in official documents, the bald eagle has appeared since 1782. The seal consists of an eagle, an olive branch, arrows, a flag shield, the motto “E Pluribus Unum” (translated: One of many) and 13 stars.
The image of the bald eagle thus appears on documents, the presidential flag and on military decorations and dollars, according to the website of the US administration. However, the eagle was not the official national symbol. It is a species native to North America. As the only species of exclusively North American eagles and golden eagles, it has been fully protected since 1940.
