Juliana Leite Rangel, 26 years old, was shot in the head during an approach by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) on the Washington Luís highway, in Duque de Caxias (RJ). The young woman and her family were on their way to Christmas dinner when the car was fired upon by the PRF. Juliana’s father was hit by a shot that hit one of the fingers on his hand.
The young woman underwent surgery and is hospitalized in serious condition at the Adão Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital. A family member reported that the agents did not give the car a chance to stop before shooting. A video shows Juliana’s father in despair after the shot that hit the young woman in the head.

According to a report by Fala Brasil, on Record TV, the agents were suspicious of the vehicle with tinted windows and had mistaken it for the victims’ car. In an interview with the broadcaster, the young woman’s father reported the situation.
“They activated the siren, I gave the signal to pull over and they started shooting at my car. He shot my daughter in the head with a rifle,” said Alexandre Rangel, the young woman’s father.
Dayse Luci Leite Rangel, Juliana’s mother, also gave an interview to the broadcaster and claimed that the agents did not provide assistance.
“They didn’t ask us to stop for a minute and they came out, shot at the car, hit my daughter in the head. They didn’t ask to stop, there was a lot of shooting at the car, a lot of shooting, it could have killed the whole family! He hit my daughter in the head and they didn’t help,” said Dayse. According to the report, so far the PRF has not commented on the situation.
