The Civil Defense of the State of São Paulo issued the first sound alert via cell phone in the state for the residents of Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, on Wednesday night (25). The objective of the alert is to guide residents about the risk of flash floods and floods.
The alert was issued at 10:21 pm after analyzes by the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (Cemaden) identified a scenario with adverse weather conditions and the displacement of areas of instability, increasing the potential for flooding in the region.
The technology used by Civil Defense allows messages to be quickly sent directly to the population’s cell phones without the need for internet or specific applications.
Classified as ‘severe’, the alert for Campinas was sent preventively to alert the population about the risk of floods and floods, valid for two hours.
The agency emphasizes that the main objective of the alert was to inform the population about the imminent risk, ensuring time to adopt preventive measures and reduce possible damage.
Rains in the capital
This Wednesday (25th). According to the Capital City Hall’s Climate Emergency Management Center, at least 19 flooding points were recorded, 14 of which were impassable.
Areas of instability gained strength in the city during the afternoon on Wednesday. The entire city went on alert for flooding. The recorded floods were concentrated in the center and east zone. The Itaquera region went on alert due to the overflow of the Verde River.
According to Enel’s latest update, the number of customers without power was around 18,000 across the state.
