Collapse

The Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira bridge, located over the Tocantins River, on BR-226/TO, connects the cities of Estreito (MA) and Aguiarnópolis (TO). The structure collapsed on Sunday. However, months before the incident, residents and authorities in the region were already denouncing the need for repairs to the bridge.

The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit) informed, in a note released on Monday (23), that it was aware of the need for rehabilitation work on the bridge that collapsed between the states of Maranhão and Tocantins.
