Emergente Festival with the new generation of Portuguese music until Saturday in Lisbon

The Emergente Festival, whose main mission is to “support the new generation of Portuguese music”, is holding its 6th edition between this Thursday and Saturday, in Lisbon, with three days of concerts ranging from traditional Portuguese music to electronic sounds.

This year there are four invited artists and eight ‘Super Emergent’ projects selected by competition that make up the festival’s lineup, which includes concerts “with very diverse sounds”, according to the organization in a statement.

The bands present songs that range “from the roots of traditional Portuguese music and its contemporary appropriations” to electronic sounds – “crossings of techno with drum and bass, and neo soul with cabozouk” -, including indie rock and experimental rock .

The 6th edition takes place at the BOTA space (Base Organizada da Toca das Artes), in the Anjos region.

This year, the guest artists are Surma, Maria Reis, Baleia Baleia Baleia and Aggressive Girls.

The eight ‘Super Emergent’ projects, which will compete for the Best Project and Best Concert awards, are Bea Bandeirinha, Catarina Carvalho Gomes, Francisco Fontes, Hal Still Echoes, Ibsxjaur, Líquen, Pato Bernardo and Ya Sin.

The eight were chosen from 94 entries, from various regions of the country and “of very high quality”, a number that made this year’s ‘open call’ the most “attended and musically diverse of all time”.

The winner of the Best Project award, worth 1,500 euros, will record a ‘master’ of an album or EP, directed by music producer Suse Ribeiro.

The winner of the Best Concert award will tour the country, between March and May 2025, on a tour of venues such as BOTA, Bang Venue, in Torres Vedras, Salão Brazil, in Coimbra, Carmo’81, in Viseu, Saliva Diva , in Porto, the Café Concerto Quina das Beatas/CAE, in Portalegre, and the in Olhão.

“Festival Emergente once again lives up to its main mission of supporting the new generation of Portuguese music, offering maximum visibility each year, the best conditions for musicians to shine and let their talent emerge, and the greatest number of possible opportunities for the winning bands of the Open Call Super Emerentes”, says the organization.

The general pass for the Emergente Festival costs 30 euros. There are also daily tickets – which cost 12 euros for this Thursday and Friday in December and also for Saturday day and Saturday night. It is also possible to buy a ticket that includes Saturday day and night, for 18 euros.

Tickets can be purchased online, on the BOL platform, via Emergente’s Linktree or on festival days at the BOTA door
