Tavira City Council will have a budget of 51 million euros in 2025, a value that exceeds this year’s by 9.5 million euros, an increase of almost 25%, a source from the municipality in the district of Faro revealed to Lusa.
The difference of over 9.5 million euros in the budget for 2025, compared to 2024, is due to “revenue from transfers, namely co-financed projects”, explained the executive chaired by Ana Paula Martins (PS) .
The budget counted on the favorable votes of the PT majority (four) and the contrary votes of the PSD opposition (three), in the Chamber, at the end of November, a position that the parties maintained in the Municipal Chamber, on December 11, when there were 15 votes in favor, 10 against and one abstention, according to a municipal source.
“The 2025 budget of the Municipality of Tavira will be 51 million euros, presenting a higher value [ao de 2024] by 9.5 million, due to the increase in investment financing, with emphasis on the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR)”, can be read in the document approved by municipal bodies.
The valorization of people and families, with a budget of R$ 13.7 million, cultural identity, with R$ 2.1 million, and the economy, with R$ 2.2 million, as well as environmental sustainability, which will count with an amount of 7.5 million, are among the strategic objectives for next year in Tavira, says the municipality.
In relation to taxes, the Chamber of Tavira will apply a 2.5% IRS rate and an IMI rate of 0.30%, although an “aggravation for degraded buildings” and “benefits for dependents, reduction for houses leased and extension of exemption for two years”, he indicated.
Asked about the relevance of approving the budget for 2025, the municipal executive responded that “it is important because it will allow the launch next year of works relating to the external consultation unit, social housing, renovations of public spaces, sports equipment and accessibility in the various parishes of the municipality”.
It will also make it possible to maintain ongoing and “already consolidated” projects in areas such as sport, culture and social action, highlighted the municipality, pointing out as examples a program to promote physical activity, cultural programming for the summer in Tavira or the Mediterranean Diet Fair.
Social support for purchasing medicines, renting or scholarships are also among the programs highlighted by .
“People and families are the basis of our society and concern for them should always come first. We want Tavira to be a municipality with a better quality of life and equal opportunities for those who live here, so investing in education and social support for those who need it most will be at the forefront of our priorities”, he concluded.
