On Thursday, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported on the operations of Israeli forces in the south of the country.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Thursday expressed concern over further damage caused by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon. According to the AFP agency, this is happening despite the agreed truce between Israel and the Lebanese militant movement Hezbollah, reports TASR.
The UNIFIL mission said in a statement on Thursday that it was “concerned by the ongoing destruction of residential areas, agricultural land and roads in southern Lebanon by the Israeli army”. She clarified that this action is “contrary to UN Security Council Resolution No. 1701”, which ended the fighting between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006, and demanded its full implementation.
The resolution states that Lebanese troops and UN peacekeepers should be the only forces in southern Lebanon and calls for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanese territory. “All actions that threaten the fragile ceasefire must be stopped,” UNIFIL emphasized.
The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported on Thursday about “extensive” operations by Israeli forces in the south of the country. It also said on Wednesday that Israeli airstrikes had hit the Baalbek district in eastern Lebanon.
The cease-fire took effect on November 27, about two months after Israel stepped up its bombardment and later sent troops into Lebanon after nearly a year of cross-border fire. Since then, the warring parties have been exchanging accusations of truce violations, writes AFP.
